Under the roof at Rogers Centre

Here is the problem with a retractable roof stadium. You have a gorgeous night in Toronto and for some odd reason, the roof is closed. This makes no sense. Are they trying to mess with Wakefield’s knuckleball? That doesn’t add up because Wake usually dominates indoors.

So we are stuck indoors on a perfect summer night. I’m bitter about this.

I did make it through customs fine this morning — new passport and all.

The deep drive David Ortiz hit in the first inning — which just missed being a grand slam and instead was a long out — might have been the best ball he’s hit all season. He also scalded one in his second at-bat, and hit a vicious liner to first. His third at-bat wasn’t so encouraging, a lazy flyout to center. Then there was the familiar sight of Papi, head down, walking back to the dugout.

Anyone notice that J.D. Drew hasn’t done anything since moving into the three-hole? He’s still looking for his first hit of the road trip.

Is anyone watching the game? I guess I had to break in this new thread! GO SOX! GO WAKE!

Way to go, KOT! GO SOX!

Ian, as far as JD is concerned? Oh, yes, we notice! Come on, JD! GO SOX!

Let’s go, Jacoby! Get em HOME! GO SOX!

I hope Papi’s near-miss on the GS will be a good sign that he’ll star hitting soon! COME ON, PAPI! GO SOX!

NICE JOB, JACOBY! GET EM HOME, GUYS! GO SOX! 2-1! YES!

DRAT! DP! Good thing we got the one run in! Come on, WAKE! GO SOX!

?Nadie esta’ en casa? Ou’ est tout le monde? GO SOX!

Rance Mullinix! I remember Rance! Hmmm! GO SOX!

Get the last out, Wake–it’s all you need! GO SOX!

Attaboy, Wake! Get some runs for Wake, guys! GO SOX!

Nice job, J-Bay! 2B! Get him home, guys! GO SOX!

DRAT! We still need to get Wake some more RUNS! Come on, Wake, hold the lead! Great work so far! GO SOX!

It’s been interesting to listen to Rance Mulliniks alongside Orsillo–as a former member of the Jays! Kinda cool. GO SOX!

That was a great curveball! Talk about 12 to 6 break! Get the outs with that curve, Wake! GO SOX!

DRAT! Nice hit! Tie score now! GO SOX!

Good line by Mulliniks about KevLar! “As I’m sure you in RSN all know, in order for Kevin Millar to get an infield hit, about 3 players would have to all fall down at once!” :)

Come on, Wake, we need some OUTS! The Jays are getting to Wake this 5th inning!

DRAT! Bummer, Wake! Good thing we have Bard warming up! We’ll need some RUNS now guys! GO SOX!

A couple batters too late, Tito! We needed to get a reliever in there! Get the final out, Bard! Then we need RUNS, guys! GO SOX!

Good, got the final out! OK, Mike, let’s start a rally now! GO SOX!

Come on, Kot! GO SOX!

Nice bunt for a hit, LugNuts! He has the speed for it! GO SOX!

We still need runs, guys! Hold their offense, now, Bard! GO SOX!

With Papi in such a state, Francona is hoping for Drew to demonstrate what he did last June in Ortiz’s absence. Ellsbury and Pedroia, can manufacture their own runs, PApi or not sitting behind them. Bay is the most productive and prolific hitter, moving Ortiz to the 6th hole, guarantee’s Bay with see nothing at the plate in order to get to Ortiz. Once again Francona’s loyalty means accommodating a single player, and sacrificing the effectiveness of the team.

I wasn’t look forward to playing any team that just lost 9 games in a row on the road — let alone the Jays. You know they are looking for major course correction tonight.

Plus Wake pitching (not my favorite pitcher, though I know many of you like him), but to me he is a guaranteed win or a guaranteed loss and his win streaks are usually not longer than 3 games, then come the bad outings (win or lose) in equal or greater number. By my count, we are in the 2nd of bad outings for him, so there is probably a few more before he gets it going again.

We had our chances early and didn’t pad on, I fear the pinstripes will be in 1st place by the end of tonight. Sorry for the great pick-me-up :) .

sorry for the double post.

HR! WAY TO GO, JD! 6-3! We still need more runs! GO SOX!

Hey, DGN! I’ve got a little company now! ;) GO SOX!
Hey, Fadeaways!

Sorry, DGN, but while the Knuckleball can be off or on depending on the night, I’ll take Wake over A LOT of pitchers, and he has been one of the best for us this year! (Where the lleh would we be without Wake’s outings? Fighting with Baltimore for the basement suite!) GO SOX!

Hi All! Was baking birthday cakes! lol! So – not a good night for Wake! Let’s go boys! WE NEED THIS WIN!!!!

GO RED SOX!!!!!

Sox are playing like they are half asleep. It appears that they have given up. At least Bard looks pretty good!!

Daniel Bard has done quite a good job in relief of Wake. GO SOX!
DGN, what I DO wish Tito would do differently with Wake is have a pitcher designated beforehand to relieve Wake relatively quickly when his control is not as it needs to be. He had relatively shaky command in previous innings, not just in the 4th. It’s tricky, though, because Wake can lose it relatively quickly–and get control back relatively quickly. I for one am willing to live with that risk!

Hey Greg. Just checking in. Are you the only one posting? It is a beautiful day here on the West Coast so I have had other things to do. Is a visit from the Red Sox an antidote for a losing streak? I can’t believe that we have eleven hits and only three runs. Not looking good. Wake didn’t have it again! Maybe the bats will wake up! Is that a pun? GO SOX.

JULIA! Voila’!–Elle est arrive’! How are you? Hey Phil! The Sox had a chance early on (the 2nd, I think it was), and could not convert. Not much after that. Jacoby with 2 RBI hits, and JD with a solo HR. Not so good on the pitching front–and now Saito is in! YAY! :/ At least Bard did well! GO SOX!

Hey, Paul, I have been until now–but that is all right, I don’t mind! (I can just give you guys the play by play!) ;) GO SOX!

Hi Greg! All is well! My youngest son turns 12 tomorrow and we are having a party. I’m not felling the love tonight in Toronto….ugh….

And Tito’s health scare yesterday wasn’t good news.

No, but I can see why! Speaking of health, Julia, how’s your eye? How’s the Poison Ivy in general?

Oh, and you mean to tell me that you are not the only one who has birthdays in your house? ;) GO SOX!

Not so much for the Sox tonight! Asi’ anda la vida, a veces! (Such is life, sometimes!) Get em tomorrow, guys! (And hey, Josh Beckett has gotten back on the beam! Good work, Josh!) GO SOX!

Hey Greg. I get the Gameday play be play but of course, since we are playing in Canada, it is on TV! As a said previously, the Sox were an antidote for Jays losing streak! Pretty depressing. There is no in between for Wake! Either he outstanding or really awful.. the bats are not doing well either. Maybe tomorrow. Ciao. Paul

Was “felling the love” an intentional play on what happened tonight, Julia? It fell like a tree? HMMM!… GO SOX!
