The Buck stops here

There will be no ERA title for Clay Buchholz. His 2010 season has come to an end. The Red Sox have scratched Buchholz from Saturday’s scheduled start because of lower back stiffness.

Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield will instead make the start, in pursuit of career win No. 194, and No. 180 with the Red Sox.

As for Buchholz, he had a tremendous season. The numbers speak for themselves — a 17-7 record, a 2.33 ERA and a .226 opponents batting average. Buchholz would have had a chacne to win the ERA title. Instead, it will go to Cy Young favorite Felix Hernandez, who is at 2.27 and won’t pitch again this year.

I hope Wake has a good day. My fingers are crossed!

Clay has done so much to help save the season and it’s a shame he won’t have the chance for the ERA title. I really wish though that Tito would pitch Lester on short rest to allow him to try for his 20!

I’m glad that we get to see Wake pitch again this season. Along with Lowell, he’s another of the class acts that we have playing in Boston.

On the subject of Mike Lowell:
I live about 15 minutes from SunLife Stadium, where the Marlins play. Back when they traded Beckett to Boston and threw Mike in on the deal, the only people happy to see him go were the Management and front office. We didn’t know what we were going get. What a very nice “throw in” we got!!! Mike has been nothing short of the epitome of a baseball player and man. I don’t think I can remember him ever not giving 100 percent of everything he had. I can’t pinpoint one moment that was a favorite, so I’ll just call Mikey’s entire Boston RedSox career my favorite Mike Lowell moment!!

Thanks Mike, Good luck to you.
