Young optimistic on Beckett

New Red Sox pitching coach Curt Young is in town this week for Rookie Development Camp, and some other events. While he won’t speak specifically about adjustments he will make with Josh Beckett until he works side-by-side with the righty, Young did sound optimistic about where the righty is at going into Spring Training.

“In talking to Josh, he’s a really interesting guy, very possessed on what he does and I’m really looking forward to working with Josh,” Young said. “The main thing is health and it seems to be that he’s very healthy and really looking forward to the start of this year.”

that would be great for the sox if he comes back to where he used to be. with him ,lester and bucholtz 1,2,3 the pressure is off lackey and dice-k and maybe they’ll have good seasons too.

I wouldn’t hold my breathe re: Dice-K. He has been given many chances and he doesn’t seem to be measuring up. Occasionally, though rarely, he may have a good game i.e., more than 4 or 5 innings before he blows any lead he may have been given. The Sox should look to trade him(consistent with his no-trade clause-I assume he has one) preferably to the National League, while they may be able to get something worthwhile. Lackey- I think we should give him another shot.

Phil, I agree with you about Dice-K, esp. with Salty behind the plate. That combo really makes me nervous. I hope Salty demonstrates that he can at least be a solid backstop (regardless of his bat). I would be less nervous about having Dice-K in there if Salty does well. I do think Lackey will at least have a better year than last year, and should be a solid 4-slot pitcher. I hope Beckett can stay healthy this year, and can concentrate on his pitching. Hopefully, C. Young will be a help to him, and the rest of the pitching staff. GO SOX!

Interesting. Looks like Damon and Zazu both have signed with the Rays… hmmm…
I also read that Vernon Wells was traded to the Angels (from the Blue Jays) for Juan Rivera and Mike Napoli. The Angels finally made a move.
GO SOX!

WOW.. Just saw that myself, Greg. Maybe Brian can give us updates on Whats his name and Zazu sightings in his area! lol
I am supposed to be “attempting” to travel to Tampa for my birthday to see them play the RedSox. Should be very interesting to say the least. The two players that get booed each time they set foot on Fenway soil; they deserve each other. They can share stories of how awful they were treated by the Sox.

I wouldn’t be too worried about Dice-K. He’s consistently inconsistent, but he always performs pretty well for a #4-#5 starter, which is all he is. And while Salty is a legitimate concern, just because there are so many unknowns in play, he’s also a minor concern since the lineup is SO strong otherwise. As Theo has said, there’s always going to be a position or two where you’re letting a guy learn and develop into the player you know he can be. That position this year is catcher, and V-Tek will be there all the way to back-up and mentor the kid. Shortstop will be similar, although with Scutaro and Lowrie fighting for the job, we’ve got two strong candidates and I would be happy with either of them in the starting role. What I’m concerned about is the Beckett/Lackey bounceback. Can Beckett prove that his problems were mostly with the injuries? Will Curt Young be able to help these guys get back on track? Right now that’s what I’m looking at. If those guys can at least just hold down the middle of the rotation, we’ve got a postseason-bound team for sure.

I agree I won’t be too concerned about Dice-K as a no. 5 starter. The Sox spent tons of $$ to sign him. But the Sox have recouped more than what they have spent on Dice-K. I pray that CY can help Beckett and Lackey back to what they are capable of doing. I think the Sox signed CY for a reason. We shall see.

I think that the only way that the Sox could recoup what they have spent on DiceK is if we get a sudden influx of fans from Japan. Unfortunately the Sox probably won’t have enough seats available at Fenway. My concern re: DiceK is that he seems to consistently squander any leads that the Sox get for him in the early innings. Often times Tito leaves him in to garner enough innings to get credit for the win and DiceK blows it. This is one of Tito’s shortfalls. When DiceK begins to be unable to locate the plate, Tito should yank him. Even if DiceK eventually turns things around he certainly gives Sox fans plenty of aggravation along the way.

I noticed today that Rocco Baldelli is officially retiring as a player, and is joining the Rays FO. I wish him the best– I hope is happy that he can still contribute to baseball!
I also noticed that Bartolo Colo’n is signing with the Yankees on a Minor League contract. Methinks that makes the Yankees the WS favorites now! ;)
GO SOX!

It appears that Ca$hman is tired of upscale shopping and prefers thrift shopping at Filene’s Basement. TJ Maxx, Marshall’s.
It’s a question when Bartolo is going AWOL. Seriously, Red Sox is the team to beat. Orioles and Jays are the teams to watch. The whole AL East division can be competitive.

It’s been very nice having a good idea of what our team would look like, even before the Christmas break, and that we’re able to concentrate on getting ready for ST. (Nice, also, that arb hearings were avoided again this year, even if Pap is overpaid).
I do wonder if we’ll pick up another bench player or two (to go along with Mike Cameron), and if so, if they’ll be from the inside (from our farm system), or whether we’ll sign a Dave Roberts- or Bobby Kielty-type player. Can’t wait to see what our team can do on the field– not just on paper! Play ball, already! ;) GO SOX!

The Sox may have to hire a dog sled team and mushers to get the equipment truck out of New England. I am getting photos of houses and other buildings collapsing from the weight of the snow from family members in NE. And another storm on the way.

Greg, Garry, Dave, Ellen, Brian, Andy, Craig and all other bloggers: Ready for Spring Training???? Batter up!! This will be a great year! I can’t wait.
Garry, I may be able to get a few days off when you are out this way. Stay in touch.
Go Sox!!!!!

Arnie,
I am ready!!!!! Maybe with this mnew line-up I won’t have to go in the closet or try any new positions on the couch trying to fire up a rally. Garry…I would consider it a privelige to play around of golf or 10 with you!!!!! Go Sox!!!

In the dream I’m in a car (it’s RedSox Red) and I’m driving down Off Season Way, I pass HotStove Corners, and now I’m at P’s and C’s Boulevard. I’m trying to get to 2011 Season Avenue. I hear the inner child inside me yelling: ARE WE THERE YET?????
Well?? Are we??
It seems that this off season has been longer than others. I guess I’m like a kid at Christmas who wants to play with their new toys. That could be a bad thing too!! When ever I got a new doll, by the end of the day one of my brothers would pull an arm or a leg out of poor Dolly’s socket!! Hope that doesnt happen with our new toys. LOL

ps: Arnie I hear that you are in for a deep freeze too! So take care of YOU and stay WARM!!

Ellen, Colorado has gone soft. We have become California. They canceled school, and told state, county and city workers to come in late. All day and night the radio and TV have been warning people to BE CAREFUL!! “Keep your faucets running so they don’t freeze.” “Don’t go outside!”
You’d think the world is coming to an end because of a little cold weather! It’s embarrassing.
Ellen how is your back?

someone scream playball….sigh…i am ready !…………..its gonna be a monumental yr…..judge
