Phillies GM impressed by the Red Sox

Most national publications will probably predict the Red Sox and Phillies to face off in the World Series this season. Today, the clubs squared off at City of Palms Park, which is obviously a much lighter atmosphere than a potential Fall classic would be.

The Red Sox added Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford to their team. The Phillies got Cliff Lee back, their World Series hero from 2009.

Count Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. among those impressed by the Sox.

What does he think of the Sox on paper?

“This is the best club in baseball, I think,” said Amaro. “The combination of speed, power pitching and bullpen — they’re a hell of a ballclub. They don’t have a whole lot of holes.

“Any time you bring that kind of talent to your club, they did a heck of a job. They already had a great team except for a whole lot of injuries. For them being in the race, to hang around as decimated as they were, they were decimated every bit as much as the Mets were a couple years back. For them to kind of keep things afloat is pretty impressive.”

It is interesting that Amaro made the comments about the Red Sox being the “best team”, while at the same time, his team was throwing a one-hitter… hmmm, go figure…
GO SOX!

That’s the beauty part about being the best, Greg. You don’t have to show off. It’s only Spring Training after all.

As Cheng Man Ching sadi:”If my opponent doesn’t move, I don’t move. If my opponent moves, I move faster.”
Patience Grasshopper, when the Sox are ready, when they have need, they will be an unstoppable force.

Oh, I buy that, Arnie. I am simply anxious for REAL baseball to start. In the meantime, I think, in contrast to the poster thinking Amaro was drunk, he is more likely playing mind games.
Cheng Man Ching? Is he related to Chien-Ming Wang? ;)

Greg, he’s a PHILLIES fan, of course he would think Amaro was drunk! Have you been to a game in Philly?

If you’ve never been to a Phillies home game, don’t forget to bring your batteries!!! Just ask J D Drew about that!!
The Phillies fans hated Francona, well their loss has been our gain!!!!

Arnie, I have never been to a Phillies game, as I have been only to three MLB games in my life– only one of them was a Red Sox game, against the Orioles. (The Brewers and the Braves were the only 2 other home parks I’ve been to).
Growing up a Redskins fan, though, where the Eagles are div. rivals, I’ve been to more than my share of Skins- Eagles games. My uncle is also an Eagles fan. So yeah, I know SOMETHING about “Philly Fans”.

I forgot you were a Redskins fan growing up. So you are quite familiar with the lunatics in Philly. Nothing they do or say should surprise anyone, unless one of them helps a little old lady or says something nice. THAT would be shocking. Hmmm…. am I painting with too broad a brush?? Nah…
