Carl, I just hope you have a great season, you're a credit to your profession, forget about who said what, just play your game, these people just have opinions, and to let them get to you is not professional, just consider the source. Good luck in 2012

If anyone is worthy of a Johnny Peskey "Red Sox for Life" contract, it is Tim Wakefield. From his unselfish team first attitude, giving it his all on the mound, and his dedication to Dana Farber , the Jimmy Fund , and other charities, this man is in my opinion one of the greatest to wear the Red Sox Uniform. Red Sox management , PLEASE make this happen, not just for Tim, but for the fans, and for future Red Sox players, to be an example of what a major league baseball player should be.

THANK YOU TIM WAKEFIELD!!
I am aware that time moves on and that changes have to take place, but that doesn't make me any less sad today. I had the pleasure of sitting 3 rows up, directly behind home plate in June of 2007 in Miami when the Sox came in for Interleague play. That night Wake was on the mound. I was completely enthralled as I watched the ball flutter and dance with each pitch! I know that when he pitched he either had "it" or he didn't. There never seemed to be any middle ground and the "didn't have "it" " games were coming with more frequency. Still, to me anyway, this is a sad day for the Nation.
Thank you Tim, Thank you for your graciousness, your professionalism, your TEAM 1st attitude. Thank you for doing what ever was best for the team. Thank you for giving your ALL EVERY time you put the uniform on.Thank you for allowing me to watch you for the last 17 years. There is and will always only be ONE Tim Wakefield.
Thank you.

Why don't the Red sox offer Oswalt a deal that is structured along the following lines:
1. 2012 salary of $5 mil - $9 mil (i.e., whatever they think is palatable).
2. 6 round trips by private jet and helicopter to his home (total cost <$250,000).
3. A renewable team option for 2013, 2014 and 2015 @ $12 mil/year, which the Red Sox can buy out at any time for $2.5 mil.
If Oswalt returns to his prior form the Red Sox have a reasonably priced Ace. If he isn't worth the $12 mil they can buy out for $2.5 mil. This structure allows the Red Sox to add an additional $2.5 mil to their offer to Oswalt, but kicks into the 2013 team salary when it will be more affordable. From Oswalt's perspective it guarantees that in a worst case scenario he will receive an extra $2.5 mil (i.e., over and above whatever the Red Sox are currently prepared to offer).

In addition, the team options for future seasons and the offer to provide round trip private jet service to his home indicate sensitivity to his needs and should flatter his ego.

(Note: the dollar amounts quoted above are purely examples. Their purpose is solely to illustrate the suggested structure).

I see that Cespedes landed with the A's. Gotta wonder why Beane signed him to a 4-year deal while unloading several younger pitchers at the sam time. I dunno-- go for it, Billy.
I also see that the Pirates have been negotiating with the Yankees about AJ Burnett. If that isn't "Penthouse to Outhouse", I don't know what is. We'll see. Ouch.
Let's PLAY BALL, already! GO SOX!
